Visiting Chenonceau, the Woman's Castle

We did a day trip to Chenonceau, known as the "Woman's Castle" because of the number of important women that owned and created it.  One of the wonderful things about where we live is that it is within an hour or so of hundreds of beautiful castles in the Loire valley.  We have only been able to visit a few of them.

Rex was able to visit, but only if we carried him in a bag.  Surprisingly, he didn't mind.  Although he did get a little heavy!  They had real fires throughout the castle.

The kitchen was our favorite.  An amazing collection of copper pots.

This was the servant's dining room.

Genia on the stairs leading to the kitchen, which was in the basement.
This was the first time a castle had straight stairs instead of spiral stairs.

Genia in the Great Room, which crosses of the Cher River.

They were decorated for Christmas.
Here's King Gary and Queen Donna!

One of the many gardens.
The moss oxen we found next to the castle farm, along with some beautiful ducks below.
